The dynamic nature of emergencies can be overwhelming. This class lays-out and simplifies the preperation process with practical, usable, and detailed techniques. You will learn simple, low cost strategies for self-reliance and peace of mind. Being prepared doesn’t have to be stressful or break the bank.

We cover the mind-set, principles, and elements of how to prepare for unexpected modern emergencies and disruptions. This class puts together information from several government and private organizations along with real life experience in practical understandable terms. We look at Red Cross and FEMA guidelines, 3rd world techniques and current tips & tricks as well as things our great grandparents did as a matter of daily life for a real world approach to preparedness. 

Through instructionals, demonstrations, hands-on exercises, Q&A, and detailed presentations you will get the practical knowledge that can keep you and your family safe and ready!

Ideal for those looking for help getting started and those wanting new ideas to bolster existing preps, this 2.5 hour course is also great for parents, individuals living alone or away from home.

CLASS SIZE is kept small (10 attendees) to facilitate questions, individual attention and distancing. Masks are appreciated if you are not vacinated during this Pandemic.

CLASS INCLUDES: 10% discount for all AHS purchases when you create a Shack account as part of the Arizona Hiking Shack family.

  • CONFIRMATION EMAIL is usually sent within 48-72 hrs of the booking class and will contain the information you will need.

 

  • ALL AHS CLASSES HAVE A 4-PERSON MINIMUM. If minimum is not met class can be cancelled. 

 

  • IF WE CANCEL class for minimum attendance requirement not being met, payment is refunded or applied to another class or event, your choice. Cancelations take place about 72 hours prior to class if needed via email. 

 

  • IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL PRIOR to 72 hours before class you will receive a full refund. Any cancellations by attendees LESS than 72 hours prior to class cannot be refunded but can be applied to another class. (Instructors are available via email and always strive for your satisfaction.)

 

  • A WAIVER will need to be signed and returned via email for this class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Jonathan Mincks – WFR, Wilderness Skills & Safety Instructor

Mincks is a boondocks scholar who has been exploring the backcountry since in diapers. His life-long study and engagement in wilderness skills and emergency response has earned him multiple credentials in; Advanced Wilderness First Aid, CPR, Natural Medicine, Wilderness Survival, Desert Survival, Paddling Specialist and Outfitting He has studied with the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations and has lived in survivalist communities as well as in 3rd world countries without all the modern amenities of the U.S.

His fun approach to teaching is renowned for being thorough, inspiring and current.  His attention to detail, up to date study and practical "hacks" has won him acclaim from new enthusiasts and seasoned professionals alike.

His life-long study and engagement in sustainability and emergency response has earned him multiple credentials in; Advanced Wilderness First Aid, CPR, Natural Medicine, Wilderness, Desert & Urban Survival, and Outfitting. He has studied with the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations and has lived in survivalist communities as well as in 3rd world countries without all the modern amenities of the U.S. His practical approach & experience are only rivaled by his infectious passion, broad knowledge and witty perspective on self-reliance that confounds the important nature of the subject. He turns survival into "serious fun" for those who work or play in the backcountry because, "in the end, it is a positive attitude that will prevail."

Mincks is a go-to consultant on national and regional TV, news and media concerning outdoor recreation and safety. He has worked in the outdoor industry for over 20 years on trail crews, as a guide, outfitter, medic, educator, and outreach specialist.
