The Hike - There are many ways to do this hike. On the east side you can take Packsaddle Road, the Orohai or the Green Thumb Trail. See GPS map. On the west side you can take FR 1356, FR 10; Bulldog Canyon Trail, horse trail, Wolverine Pass and Powerline Trails, Bulldog Wash Ridge (off trail), or the Blue Ridge Trail. The southern Goldfields are rich in volcanic peaks, Sonoran vegetation and wildlife. You’ll be amazed. I’m going to take the Orohai Trail, FR 1356, the Bulldog Canyon, horse, Wolverine Pass, and Powerline Trails. Distance - 5 miles Time - 3-4 hours Elevation Change - +329'-358' elevation change Elevations - 2050' (Dome Mountain Trailhead) to 2278' (Hill before Triple Trail Junction) Type - one way Starting at - Hackamore Trailhead 33° 27.993' N, 111° 30.478' W [NAD27] On trail - 100% — Orohai Trail, FR 1356, Bulldog Canyon, horse, Wolverine Pass, and Powerline Trails Dogs allowed - no Cost - Sharing gas expenses with the driver. Brown Rd. in Mesa (south side of Brown Road, east of Power Road). Directions from the Red Mountain Freeway (Loop 202): • Exit 26 (Brown Road). • Go west on Brown a half mile to the light at Sterling Dr. • Turn left (south) at Sterling into the park. Then take the first left into the Palo Brea parking lot. Drive - • 15 miles from Red Mountain Park to Hackamore Trailhead. • The north half of Hackamore Road is rough but passable.
