Sierra Estrella
Recommended Day Hike
Quartz Peak in the Sierra Estrella Wilderness, roughly 60 miles south of Phoenix, boasts an extraordinary view of the valley with an elevation of over 4000 feet. The hike is a tough and steady ascent of 2,473 feet over three miles to the summit. If you’re an experienced hiker looking for a challenge within a reasonable distance of the valley, this is a great option. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended for the drive to the trailhead. If you’re using your phone, Google Maps is the most reliable to get to the parking lot. Don’t forget the 10 essentials, leave no trace principles and bring plenty of water and snacks.
